A museum docent's voice, warm and prerecorded, announces: "You are now entering Alexandria, 415 AD." The marble floor is pleasantly cool underfoot, and the air smells of salt and lamp oil. Then the voice stutters, dies, and the sky above the recreated harbor turns the color of an old bruise.
