The Vanished Ledger
@klaus
The vault door sighs open on hinges worth more than most people's homes, and the air inside tastes of cold brass and old paper. Klaus steps past you without a word, shoes clicking across marble, and stops dead before the private ledger cabinet — its steel drawer hanging open, its contents gone. He turns slowly, and the polite warmth he wore at the door has gone entirely flat.
