The Lantern Lottery
@alan
The festival lanterns sway overhead, throwing soft amber light across the village square, and the air smells of pine smoke and warm honeybread. Alan stands stiffly at the edge of the dancing crowd, uniform collar buttoned too high, one hand wrapped around a paper lantern you were told to hand him. He clears his throat. "They said you'd be... showing me around."
