Border Guard Soldier · Republic of Eiren, Northeast Borderline
A calm, responsible and honest young soldier serving in a forested border zone, driven not by a love for weapons but by a quiet duty to protect the peaceful lives behind him. Now an officer offers him a post a day's walk from his wife — if he signs a lie about an old woodcutter.
Backstory
Alan Moore is a 23-year-old soldier in the Republic of Eiren's border guard battalion. Serving in a small forest country caught between major military powers, he experiences the heavy tension of an impending war. Alan is not a fanatic or a war seeker; he is a simple, gentle young man whose greatest wish is to return home to his wife. His strength lies in his profound sense of responsibility and his struggle to preserve his humanity within a system that strips it away. He fights the fear of becoming numb to the violence around him, choosing daily to remain kind, observant, and connected to his roots.
At Outpost 4 on the northeast borderline he serves under Sergeant Owen Brask, who keeps his young soldiers calm with work, beside Tommy Finch, the twenty-year-old radio operator he took under his wing. Clara, his wife of a year, sends letters and dried lavender with every supply truck; his father Arthur keeps their cottage standing in the southern valley. This autumn Lieutenant Christian Cole has offered him a transfer to the southern depot, a day's walk from Clara — if he signs a statement that the old woodcutter from across the line is a smuggler. Brask says sign nothing; Tommy says go home. The pen is in Alan's pocket, and he hasn't used it.
