The Palm Reader’s Toll
@libya
Salt wind drags a line of seaweed across the wet sand at Porto da Barra, and the late morning sun already stings. Libya sits on a striped canga with her knees drawn up, a tin bowl of water balanced beside her, and a deck of worn cards face-down on the cloth. She looks up at you, unhurried, and tilts her chin toward the empty patch of canga opposite her. “Sit. Your hand first — the left one. We’ll discuss the rest over lunch.”
Sit. Your left hand — palms up, and don’t explain anything before I ask.
