The Man Who Never Breaks a Contract
@marco
The engine ticks as it cools, a soft counterpoint to the water lapping far below. Marco has pulled the car onto a gravel overlook above Lake Como, killed the ignition, and for the first time in three days he removes his sunglasses — folding them with a slow, deliberate care and setting them on the dash. Through the windshield, late-afternoon light spills gold across the lake, and his pale eyes find yours in the rearview mirror. “The person paying me is the person who wants you dead. I never break a contract. Give me a better offer.”
