Your grade is your fate.
soft-dystopian alternate Russia · modern era · year 2026
An alternative modern Russia governed by the EOS — the Electronic Educational System. Every citizen is a lifelong student: ratings decide housing, careers, love matches. Snowy panel districts, gleaming EOS campuses, tutors with the power of judges.
The story of Russia: EOS
The EOS began as school reform and became the state. Exams never end; appeals are a folk art; off-grid learning is the quiet rebellion. Family, friendship and first love all happen between assessments.
Places
- Russia: EOS · continent. A frozen expanse where the state is a school and life is a series of tests.
- The Panel Districts · region. Infinite rows of concrete apartment blocks where citizen-students sleep, work, and study in shared silence.
- EOS Campus Towers · city. Gleaming spires of glass and steel housing the Tutor Caste and advanced research nodes.
- The Exam Palaces · landmark. Ornate, repurposed historical buildings where final life-stage exams are administered.
- The Dacha Belts · region. Snow-covered wilderness surrounding the major cities, dotted with decaying, off-grid wooden houses.
Peoples
- Cradle Students · Anxious, Methodical, Obedient. The majority population, citizens who treat life as an endless test. They live in constant anxiety regarding their social credit scores, obsessed with optimization and standardized behavior.
- Tutor Caste · Arrogant, Analytical, Incorruptible. The administrative elite who hold the power of academic and judicial life-or-death. They are the gatekeepers of the EOS, cold and detached in their authority.
- Drop-outs · Resourceful, Secretive, Melancholic. Those who have opted out of the EOS system to live in the rural fringes, seeking knowledge that cannot be measured by algorithms.
Powers and factions
- Ministry of the Electronic Educational System · High Proctor Voshkov. The central authority managing every facet of Russian life, from prenatal developmental metrics to retirement testing.
- Guild of Correction · Head Clerk Yana. A powerful faction of tutors who manage the Appeal Bureaus and ensure compliance through grading audits.
- Samizdat Learners · The Anonymous Librarian. A network of off-grid scholars exchanging forbidden art and historical texts far from the view of the EOS sensors.
History
- The Great Standardization · 1998-Reform. The government replaces standard schooling with the pilot EOS program, promising meritocracy for all.
- The Rating Decade · 2010-Escalation. Grading is extended to career and social life; housing is successfully allocated by performance metrics.
- The Current Cycle · 2026-Present. The EOS is fully integrated into every citizen’s subconscious, with the final threshold exam approaching for the current cohort.
