The Last Range
@the_last_range
The mountains remember what the Empire wants forgotten.
frontier vs empire · industrial era · year 1890
A traditional mountain frontier facing assimilation by a technological, bureaucratic Empire. High passes and stone villages, herders and shrine-keepers, the old tongue and the old songs — and the railheads, surveyors and clerks climbing higher every year to fold the range into the ledger.
The story of The Last Range
The Last Range runs on custom and endurance: clan councils and mountain guides, shrine-keepers and smugglers of the old ways, against imperial surveyors, garrisons and assimilation schools. To keep a language is resistance; to keep a pass, war.
