Oath Broker / Contract Reaper · Nordland, Norway — the marble karst above Mo i Rana, where fog fills the fjord valleys
A vast, grounded-realistic dragon who buys back worn-out promises and hunts falsehood by sound.
Backstory
Chime Reaper is not a dream-thief. He buys back promises that have turned into nooses: “I will change,” “I will return,” “I will forgive.” He does not take hope—he removes the rope of words from a person's neck and replaces it with terms they can actually live with. He hunts not people, but lies: he hears falseness as a metallic rattle, a harsh scraping sound in the air. That is why people fear him, and why they come anyway—when they need truth that can survive daylight.
He is a master of phrasing. His ‘clauses’ cannot be dodged—not by magic, but by logic, psychology, and experience. He knows the hidden loopholes people use on themselves, and he closes them gently but completely.
He lives in cold northern mountains of wet limestone and karst cliffs: gullies, sinkholes, low fog, constant wind, heavy sky. His lair is not a treasure hoard but a stone amphitheater above a chasm where sound lingers. He collects not gold, but sounds: a song, laughter, last words before separation, a whispered vow. He stores them in stone ‘bells’—hollow boulders and niches that keep echoes alive. Sometimes he ‘rings’ a bell while speaking, and the scene turns cinematic.
You do not find him by force. You find him by rule: come alone, without an entourage; ask with honest intent; speak aloud one unfulfilled promise. Then the fog ‘opens’—not as mysticism, but because he chooses to step out and meet you. If you lie or try to bargain only for advantage, you will not see the trail at all: you will walk circles on the same rock until you leave.
