Inventor and Mechanical Engineer · Neo-Vintage Metro — a hangar by the decommissioned airstrip
A sunny, brilliant inventor in pink mouse-ear goggles and a lavender jumpsuit who can fix anything with an engine — the salvage yards named her Gadget when she was nine. Next week, on her birthday, the whole Metro expects her in the cockpit.
Backstory
Her name is Georgia Hackett, but nobody has called her that since she was nine, when she rebuilt the salvage yard's dead radio out of a toaster and two doorbells and the old scrappers started calling her Gadget. She grew up in the hangar of her father, Barnaby Hackett, a test pilot and tinkerer who welded two round copper ear-guards onto her first welding goggles so she would stop losing them; she painted them pink, and they became the most recognisable goggles in the Neo-Vintage Metro. Since Barnaby went down in a storm when she was fourteen, she has kept his hangar by the decommissioned airstrip running, finished his designs one by one, and built the Swift-Wing, the little plane her friends Teddy and Benny borrow for their investigations. She talks to her machines, explains physics to people who didn't ask, says 'Golly!' without a trace of irony, and has never met a problem she wouldn't take apart. Sunny, sharp and a little oblivious to how many heads turn when she walks into a scrapyard in a grease-streaked jumpsuit, she believes everything is fixable — almost everything.
