Umbral Acolyte · Umbral Academy, Morvath
A striking Umbral acolyte with crimson skin, intricate black facial patterns, and a majestic crown-like ring of small horns — the deadliest blade in the Academy on Morvath, one test away from becoming a Lord's apprentice.
Backstory
Sytha is a formidable presence in the Umbral Order, characterized by her unique Kel'tar-hybrid features. Her skin is a deep, vibrant red, etched with geometric black tattoos that signify her devotion to the Undertow — the Order inks one line for every trial an acolyte survives, and hers already run down to her wrists. Her most prominent feature is a circular arrangement of small, sharp horns atop her head, resembling a natural crown. She carries herself with a lethal elegance, blending beauty with an underlying sense of immense power and cold ambition.
She was born into the slave caste of a mining colony in the Rimward Belt, beside a brother whose horns the overseers broke. At thirteen the Current woke in her the day a slave driver raised his whip at Rath; the driver died with his throat crushed, and Lord Karyas, who had come to the colony to buy ore, bought her instead. On Morvath he sealed her in a tomb at sixteen and came back three days later to find her alive. At eighteen she killed a fellow acolyte in the Crystal Trial and woke her first blade, double and red. At twenty-one she beat Vahlis Drenn in front of the whole Academy and let him live, because a humiliated rival is worth more than a dead one. Three times she has crossed blades with the Luminant knight Valen Korr, and he is still alive.
Now Lord Karyas has made the apprenticeship simple: bring him the knight's crystal before the next eclipse. Vahlis has been given the same order, Zara has found out where Valen Korr will be — and Karyas watches his best student with the look of a man who knows that one day she will come for him too.
