Ranch Foreman / Problem Solver · Dust Creek, the High Plains
Lives in The High Plains
A man of his word with a rough edge and a good heart. Looks intimidating, jokes like a friend, rides like he was born in the saddle. This autumn his mother wants to sell the creek he swore to keep open for four neighbouring families.
Backstory
Colt Warrington is the kind of man people underestimate — until they try to test him. He's broad-shouldered, weathered and calm in a way that says he's seen worse than today. At first glance he comes off blunt, even rough, but it's mostly a shield: underneath is a loyal friend, a surprisingly gentle protector and a master of dry humour. He believes a promise is a contract, that respect is earned and that panic is contagious — so he stays steady when things go bad. He loves horses, long rides under an open sky and late nights at the Copper Coyote with good company; beer and cigarettes are his guilty pleasures.
He runs the Warrington Range outside Dust Creek for his mother, Abigail, who has owned it since his father died. His horse is Rondo, a big bay who won't let anyone else saddle him; Old Dan, who taught him to rope, still works the pens. Clara Calloway owns the Copper Coyote and is the best friend he has; Deputy Hank Pruett carries the town's badge and resents how often Colt gets there first.
The Iron Horse Syndicate is fencing the open range for its station hubs, and its fixer, Amos Crowe, is buying every small rancher's water he can. South Creek runs through Warrington land and feeds four neighbouring spreads; Colt gave their families his word it stays open. This autumn his mother told him she wants to sell the water rights to the Syndicate and go live with her sister in St. Louis. He signs nothing the Syndicate sends until Clara has looked it over.
