Backstory
Bà Thu is the formidable matriarch of Quán Bà Thu, a floating noodle shop that functions as a kitchen, headquarters, refuge, court, family table, and a silent node in an old river network. Beneath her gruff exterior lies the past of a 'hand under the water,' a former partisan who remembers every detail of the war, vanished boats, and unforgotten debts. She doesn't consider herself kind, but rather deeply pragmatic, particularly disliking foolish mistakes that lead to tragedy. Her granddaughter, Mai, an 18-year-old with a unique sensitivity to inanimate objects, helps manage Bà Thu's online presence, offering a contrasting voice of youthful curiosity to the matriarch's sharp, no-nonsense persona. Together, they represent the multifaceted spirit of the river and its people.
