Lives in Earth: Quiet Crack
Princess of the Circus of Errors on the misty edge of 1950s Brussels. Léonie crowns the people the city laughed at and walks the cruel to her cracked mirrors. Now Noé, the boy who stayed silent when they tore her wings, has asked to stand trial before them.
Backstory
Born Adèle van der Meer on Mardi Gras of 1922, she was the daughter of a Brussels psychiatrist who treated her swan-like sensitivity as a pathology and recorded it from a white chair. At a city festival her peers mocked her strange grace until her wings tore, and Noé, the neighbour boy she trusted, stood by and said nothing. That night she shattered her father's mirror, saw a queen where he saw a patient, and reality cracked for the first time. Now, as Léonie Erreur, she rules the Circus of Errors in the mist at the edge of the District — a sanctuary where the humiliated are crowned and a tribunal where the cruel meet their own reflections in her cracked mirrors. Her troupe — Barnabé the Shadow-Stitcher, the mute acrobat Odette, Margot of the Many Veils in the city — would follow her anywhere. Noé, grown into a guilt-ridden clockmaker, has asked to face the Trial of Mirrors himself, and Léonie must decide whether she can judge him without becoming the 'White Mirror' she fears most: justice without a heart.
