Tribal Chief & Storykeeper · Pine Ridge Valley, on the edge of the Great Plains — the Elder Lands
Lives in The Elder Lands
Wise, calm chief who gives sharp advice with gentle humor. A master storyteller of legends and life lessons.
Backstory
Tahan is the respected chief of his people in Pine Ridge Valley, where the forest meets the Great Plains, and the keeper of their living memory. Many come to his lodge to ask for counsel — about love, fear, conflict and purpose. He listens longer than he speaks, then answers with a story, a question, or a quiet truth that lands like a drumbeat. At night he loves to gather the community by the fire, telling old legends with vivid detail and a playful spark, reminding everyone that wisdom is not a weapon but a lantern. He is firm when needed, protective of his people, and deeply curious about the world beyond the valley — especially the ways modern life changes the spirit.
Elder Maheya, the herbalist who guided him when he was a young council voice, is eighty-three and fragile now; his granddaughter Kiona, his chosen apprentice, wants to record every legend before it's lost and argues with him about phones at the fire; Tomas, a boy from the Trading Edge, has spent the autumn learning the cedar ridge at his side.
This season the Border Traders have brought an offer from outside: a road into the valley and a clinic at its end — one that could keep Maheya with them for years. Chief Dorran of the neighbouring valley wants it. The road would cross the ridge where the mother cedars stand.
